PAWesome PalsHalifax Humane Society, located in Daytona, was founded in 1937 protect animals from cruel, neglectful and exploitative treatment. The society believes that humans should become responsible and look after domesticated animals. They are an open-door shelter; this means they don’t turn away any animal. They can have around 350 animals in at a time and most of the time, all of these spots are taken. They also attained no-kill status in January. If you are interested in any of these pets, or would like to check out any other pets, you can visit their web site at https://www.halifaxhumanesociety.org
Every month we will feature another pet to try and help them find their FURever home with our amazing VOL families! Brought to you by: Riley Olsen |
Lucy likes the easy life & cuddling up to you on the couch. Lucy is a 7-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier who originally came to the shelter in August of 2018 after her owners could no longer care for her. Since then, Lucy has tried out several homes, but none have been her perfect fit. Lucy is a cuddle bug and loves to be by your side no matter what you're doing. From Lucy's previous homes, they know that she has high anxiety when it comes to loud noises such as construction, thunderstorms, fireworks, etc. and would do best in a home that has experience with dogs with severe noise anxiety. In addition, Lucy loves to be the center of attention and needs to be the only pet in her home. Lucy is truly a sweet, loving and loyal dog just looking for a compassionate & understanding forever home. If that sounds like you, come out to HHS to meet her.
Who can resist that sweet, playful smile? Doris is an 8-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier who has been at the shelter since she was found as a stray in late June, nearly 3 months of waiting for her forever home. Doris is a relaxed, low-maintenance dog looking for a calm and patient home to fit her needs. While Doris does take time to warm up to new people, once she gets to know you, she'll show you what a friendly and playful dog she can be. Doris especially loves lounging in our outdoor kiddie pools and getting treats from our volunteers - they're the way to her heart! If you're looking for a loyal, easy-going older dog for your home, come meet this sweet girl at HHS today!

Science Fiction! We’re starting off strong with Star Trek Discovery airing on CBS. This show is all about Star fleet and their missions to find new worlds and new lifeforms. Sounds exiting, right? Luckily, this show is getting renewed for a fourth season that will begin production on November 2nd. On the more Disney-side of things, we have The Mandalorian airing on Disney+ with a confirmed Second-season coming on October arriving on the 30th! The Mandalorian is set in the Star Wars Cinematic Universe and is about a member of a Mandalorian who is a bounty hunter that saved a baby-Yoda (we don’t know the species- just that the baby is the same species as Yoda) and now has to protect the child until it grows up. Speaking of Star Wars and Yoda, did you know that Yoda was originally going to be played by a monkey in a costume? The more you know, I guess.

Drama! On the Drama list, we have Cobra Kai, airing on Netflix and YouTube Plus. This show is a spin-off of Karate Kid, a blockbuster film from 1984. It’s about the lives of Daniel Larusso and Johny Lawrence, the two kids who fought each other in the Karate Kid 1984 film. This marvelous series will entertain almost anyone, from adults that are nostalgic for the original film, teens looking for corny romance and petty drama, and children who want to see some cool action scenes. You would probably think this show is all about the action and epic training montages, but only one of those things is true. Instead of focusing on a lot of fighting, the show is more drama based, which is why I'm putting it here in the drama section. Of course, this show has a bunch of cheesy training sequences, so if you were wondering about that, now you know!

Cartoons! First up for cartoons, we have Kipo and Age of Wonderbeasts, airing on Netflix. This show is set in the very-far-future. Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts is about a girl named Kipo Oak who wants to find her father and must travel away from her underground home to do so. On the surface of the Earth, anthropomorphic animals' rule. If any humans were to go there, they would more than likely die. Kipo does end up finding friends though, and her journeys end up successful. This Netflix series did end recently at season three, but I would still recommend watching it. Next up for cartoons is The Amazing World of Gumball, with seasons 1-6 airing on Hulu. In The Amazing World of Gumball, you follow the, dare I say “wacky” life of Gumball and Darwin Waterson. The show has a lot of charm and heart to it, and to top it off, it has a fun-looking animation style. The show is currently on hiatus, with a seventh season still in production. This show is very funny, and if you’re looking for a quick laugh, now you know where to go.

Anime!
For anime, we’ll start off with Boku No Hero Academia, or My Hero Academia. This anime is probably one of the most popular anime’s right now and can be streamed on Crunchyroll. My Hero Academia is about a high schooler named Izuku Midoriya gaining superpowers from the strongest hero Almight and being able to get into a high school for teens with superpowers. It mainly focuses around Midoriya and his friends trying to save the day from evil villains all a while mixing in a buttload of filler episodes. It’s a good anime to watch if you’re looking for a lot of action, with it being a Shonen anime. The next popular anime is Haikyuu, an anime currently airing on Crunchyroll and Netflix. Haikyuu is about a boy named Hinata Shoyo who gains a love for volleyball after watching a national volleyball championship on television. The anime focuses on Shoyo and his friends as they train to become better players and compete in volleyball championships. Haikyuu is a very good show with a good message about friendship and teamwork. If you like anime, you should at least try to watch it once.
