November Students of the Month
November Teacher of the Month
Each month VOL will be recognizing a teacher and share how they positively impact our school and students.
This month we would like to recognize Mr. Cleary, a Middle/High school teacher who teaches 7th grade Regular and Advanced Science as well as Psychology 1. He has been a team player from the start and a mentor to new teachers in Edgenuity. Mr. Cleary is a huge help being a communicator between teachers and administration. He’s a positive team player and will do whatever is asked of him. He is a constant advocate for his students. Enjoy getting to know Mr. Cleary.... Philosophy of Teaching The role of the K-12 teacher is one where we are tasked with imparting the knowledge that is foundational to becoming a productive and engaged member of our democratic republic, and with the tools to be lifelong learners. I started teaching with Volusia County in 2006, after several years in the private sector. For the next 11 years I taught 2nd and 4th grades before becoming a dropout prevention teacher and then later a credit retrieval teacher at NSB Middle School. I have taught students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. With a wife and four children, and currently engaged in a Doctoral program, spare time sparse; when available I enjoy camping, hiking and cycling. Written by: Dylan Simpson |

Ever since she was little, some people couldn’t look past her missing arms. On top of that, her family moves to Arizona because her mom and dad got a new job running a rundown theme park called “Stagecoach Pass”. Aven can’t seem to make new friends at school until she meets Connor, a boy who feels caged by his own disability too. Together, they find out that the park held larger secretes than she could have ever been led to think. She struggles to solve a mystery, help a friend, face her fears, and see what she’s capable of doing. She sees that she’s not as insignificant after all. This novel packed with humor, struggle, friendship, understanding, and overcoming disability's is a must read.
